The school was incorporated in August of 1969 by a group of parents, who like you, wanted their children to have the enrichment of a Montessori preschool education. From its modest beginnings in the basement of a local church, our school has expanded, and is now located in two spacious, sunlit classrooms in Lincoln Middle School. The St. James Montessori School is a non-profit charitable organization and relies heavily on the efforts of all of our families. The school is operated by our volunteer Board of Directors and Committees to ensure that we are able to offer our children the benefits of a Montessori education. As such, it is our duty to ensure fundraising initiatives are met and all positions and responsibilities of the Board of Directors are fulfilled. Our school offers morning and afternoon 2.5 hour programs, with a choice of 3, 4 or 5 days per week. We have two teachers, Allison and Anne, and there are no more than 20 children attending each session. Allison, our teacher/director, has worked in the childcare field for more than 10 years. She taught in many childcare centres in Ontario before training to become a Montessori teacher. Allison received her Montessori training at the Toronto Montessori Institute. She is a Certified Montessori Primary (3-6 years) and Elementary (6-12 years) teacher and has taught the Elementary Montessori program for Grades 1 and 2. She also has a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Child Studies and Psychology and is a qualified ECE II. Allison has been with St. James Montessori School for the past 6 years. Anne Vandenberg has been an Early Childhood Educator for over twenty years. She has worked with children from 2-12 years of age in a variety of settings and recently worked with the Pembina Trails School Division helping children and families prepare for and integrate into Kindergarten. Anne has a B.A. and has taken courses in S.T.E.P Parenting as well as Non-Violent Crisis Intervention. Both of Anne's children are graduates of St. James Montessori School and she is proud to say she attended the first Montessori program in the St. James Assiniboia area as a student in 1969! Anne is currently taking her Montessori teacher training and will be certified in March 2008..
